Concern over rising height of car bonnets - but get the story right

I see an article on the rte website about the rising height of car bonnets. Very laudable to highlight the dangers associated with this.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2025/0611/1517925-vehicle-bonnet-height-concerns/

However the whole thing is undermined by the author's reference to the Dodge RAM TRX which "is marketed in Ireland as an "APEX predator" which comes with "a menacing grill"".

Except it isn't is it? Dodge RAM pick-ups are not offically marketed in Ireland at all, and in fact the quickest Google reveals the quote comes from a Dodge dealership in Australia called "Ireland RAM".

    https://www.irelandram.com.au/new-vehicles/1500-trx/

I'm all for highlighting the issue, but it begs the question if I can spot this on subjects I know something about, what am I missing on subjects I don't. I'm a big fan of public service broadcasting but it should be to the highest standard, and this... isn't.

Media is littered with these lazy mistakes. It's only when you know about a topic that you can spot it

It's been happening for years. It will probably get worse with the advent of AI.

The author probably just copied the answer from ChatGPT, or just got it to write the whole article

Quality journalism has been going down the drain for decades, although I would argue it was never as good at the likes of the New York Times would try to portray it

I do agree it's an issue in modern cars, I was passed out by a Ford Raptor a few days ago and the bonnet on that looks pretty good for mowing down children

One of the reasons that Tesla Cybertruck monstrosity isn't sold here is because it apparently fails the EU safety standards. The sharp edge at the top of the grill is basically guaranteed to crack someone's head open if you ran them down
