So sad to hear of the death of the legendary Beach Boy. An absolute visionary and pioneer in the music industry. Pet Sounds remains an unbelievably good album to this day.

Another 1960s musical genius and legend has gone.

Pet Sounds was an absolutely amazing album and I would dare to suggest that the Beach Boys were actually ahead of the curve in comparison to The Beatles at the time it was released in 1966. It is said that when Brian Wilson first heard Sergeant Pepper in 1967, he broke down in tears because he thought that he could never better the famous concept album* by The Beatles, but I think he already had with Pet Sounds. It was an incredibly ground-breaking and innovative album at a time when music was changing at a frenetic pace.

I believe Wilson was also a bit of an "acid casualty" in the late 1960s over his heavy LSD use and he did become very withdrawn afterwards, leaving the Beach Boys and opening a health food store, but not to the extent of the damage it wrought on Syd Barratt and Peter Green who were both destroyed by acid.

*I think Sergeant Pepper, whilst brilliant, is a bit over-rated - I personally consider Revolver the best work by the Fab Four.

I had Good Vibrations on a 45, [vinyl!]. I thought it was brilliant then. It has the same effect on me today.

I was privileged to see Brian in the Bord Gais a few years ago playing the full Pet Sounds and a few of the BB classics. A true innovator and musical genius. RIP.

Love the Beach Boys .My parents played them everywhere we went and we all sang the harmonies ;) , so every note is like a happy memory.🏄

RIP Brian Wilson.

I remember circa 2008 driving a rented car through Malibu and playing Pet Sounds. I still think of it every time I hear the Beach Boys. Their sound personified our trip.

If it wasn't from the 60s, I'd say they were making allusions to the Beach Boys being the G.O.A.Ts.

Sad to hear of Wilson's passing but he had a good innings and lived to a good age despite heavy drug use.

Overall The Beatles are the greatest but I don’t think there can be any real debate anymore that Pet Sounds > Sgt Pepper

Saw him play the Marquee in Cork 20 years ago it was sick. He did loads of Pet Sounds, Smile and even his Christmas album. Think I caught him on a good day he must have played for 2 hours.
