Multiple Helicopters, no transponders active.

    I live in Boyle.

Just now, an Aer Corps chopper, what looked liked the GARDA EC135 and a Dauphin ( nostalgia ) all just flew over my house, heading West, at full tilt, within two seconds of each other.

None of them are visible on either Flight Radar 24 or ADSB Exchange.

    Anyone know what's up?

    Quite unusual..

Seeing a lot of this also. 95% of the helicopters here don't show on flight radar

Being in the arse end of nowhere “in terms of FR24” there won’t be any coverage (receivers) to pick them up firstly. Being low they would be difficult to pick up on a receiver even 10k away. Garda and air corp aircraft generally are blocked on trackers anyway. The Dauphin is exec helis and they have them blocked on FR24 as well, but not on ADSB, if they are picked up.

Sounds like a definite case of none of your business.

Thank you for the single rational answer on this thread.

I fly myself, and the route the choppers took would have taken them within visual range of a definite 8 feeder stations, and a possible 10.

I'm well used to aircraft movements and it is highly unusual to see a flotilla of choppers, practically flying in formation, without a hint of a transponder.

Also, the argument from one character here, (who clearly rarely gets out beyond the Pale!) that Boyle's "remoteness" invalidates the tracking of the flight, is not correct. I've regularly flown in the area, between Knock and Sligo, and the ADSB is always active and visible.

I mean, one look at Exchange will show aircraft in and around the area, sub 2k asl, and visible.

Anyway. It was an odd collection of aircraft. I must listen back over Live ATC to see if anything was mentioned via Shannon.

    Thanks for the reply buddy.

    Oh... feeling a bit sensitive!

I've seen you regularly complain on IAC threads about flippant comments on the services, from folks who should know better.

I would have expected a more robust comment than "mind your own business!"

Is it little wonder why there is a retainment issue within the armed forces.

I gave you the exact reason they don’t show up. But I guess you are just one of those that will reject ANY answer unless it’s the one that you want.

I live outside the Pale as it happens….buddy.

Happy to add you to the ignore list.

ADSB has fewer filters. You'll see more than FR24 anyhow.

Any Military/State aircraft that can be seen on FR24 want to be seen. Sometimes they don't want to be seen. Do bare in mind though that the lower the altitude of the aircraft, the closer a receiver needs to be to pick up the transponder, so if in mountainous or rural areas, there might not be a receiver close enough or the signal may be being blocked by terrain.
