It's time I got rid of my old helmet. Any recommendations for a road helmet and where to purchase them these days? Havent bought a new one in years. TIA.

I wore a Kask Protone for years, excellent helmet but pricey.

I then recently replaced it with the RCR MIPS helmet from Decathlon. Less than a third of the price of the Kask and not that much of a noticeable difference. https://www.decathlon.ie/p/337826-288717-road-bike-helmet-rcr-mips-white.html

It still looks comparably stylish I believe and not like a cheap helmet at all.

I can also praise it's protection levels. Had a big crash a few weeks ago with a huge knock to the head. Helmet absorbed it well and I didn't have any lasting damage. Helmet went in the bin of course and I immediately bought another exactly the same.

I wore Mask Mojito for years, lovely light helmet, unfortunately the time came to cha he it. I now have a Ekoi AR13, that I picked up for e50.00. very comfortable helmet.

Good deals on Ekoi at the moment.

Is this kind of wear on the lining and padding of a Decathlon helmet normal for less than six months of wear?

I'm a sweaty bugger but even still

Don't most helmets come with replacement spares in the box?

My helmet us the very same, I sweat like a hoor in that particular helmet though, to be fair.

I'm going to contact customer service to follow up. It's the areo style helmet I have the fcr I think it's called.

Thanks, it's a Van Rysel one, first time I've paid out good money for helmet from anything other than a Lidl €20 one, so it's a bit dissapointing.

Is there any point in looking for a replacement one, or will that go the same way?

I'm fairly good at saving spares and the like, but I don't remember anything else in the box.

Decathlon are generally very good in my experience in replacing or refunding faulty products and I would judge that to be faulty.

I'd pop into the shop with the helmet and receipt and I'd say they will replace it. If the replacement goes the same way bring it back then for a refund.

I had to do that with a running rain jacket with a faulty zip, the replacement developed the same problem and no issues with them at all. Refunded the full amount when I returned the replacement one.

Daily use? Seems about right, especially among the unfortunately more hirsute riders.

Van Rysel gear is good gear. Worth a convo though - they are a lot like Amazon - very accommodating on the CS side.

I've recently been made aware of these guys: https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/en

Bought a few bits and bobs like tubes etc, decent prices for most equipment. They have separate sections for all different sports, there's a runner Inn, a Snow Inn, Swim Inn etc. Only had a quick glance at helmets but they seemed fairly competitive

helmets are a bit of a pain, as you need to know your size . I usually buy giro for that reason.

how ever bought a full face a couple of years ago and just used the measurements on the site fits well.

alltricks, deporvillage, bikeinn bike-discount would be the sites I use regularly. Just wait for discounts.

The TradeInn network is great, have used them a lot. An added benefit recently is the option to deliver to a pick up point rather than just a home address - if you know you're going to be away etc.

I just picked up a Fox Speedframe Pro and it's incredibly comfortable. I have a Lumos Ebike Ultra and while I like the integrated lighting I recently found the Virginia Tech testing pages and it was slammed there - #221 😶 , the Speedframe is currently #4 so my noggin should be a wee bit safer…
