3 trims - In addition to the standard A290 model Irish customers can purchase for immediate delivery the A290 GT Performance, GTS and Premiere Edition, with all versions available to order from the factory.

 A290 pricing starts at €36,690 (including SEAI grant) for the 180hp GT version, with the 220hp GT performance coming in at €38,990 and the range-topping Premiere Edition priced at €44,700.

For comparison. the equivalent larger 52kw Renault 5 starts at 32k’ish, and has 150hp

A Renault 5 Iconic trim 52kw, which is way below, even the base Alpine A290 in Spec, and power, is listed at 34k'ish

The 2 is for the size of the car, like the 1 in the 110 was a small berlinetta, the 2 is a bigger hatchback and the 90 references where it sits in Alpine's future 'lifestyle' range of vehicles.

The A stands for Alpine obvs.

value as in running costs and purchase price, absolutely but I suppose the GTI is the more purist car. The Alpine is a lot more edgy than the GTX with the latter being a somewhat fast version of a comfortable car.

How much does the A290 weigh? I presume with a 52kwh battery they are relatively light.

They weigh less than 1500kg. 1475kg I think is the official figure.

i see there will be a Peugeot “E 208 GTi” launching in coming months, part of the same niche to the Alpine A290.

Spec has the E 208 GTI as 0 to 100 km in 5.7 seconds, and 280bhp, so a good bit faster and more powerful than all of the A290 models, but power isn’t everything, looks and pricing count also.

Looks gorgeous in the red and black theme of press releases anyway. On the Alpine, I can't get over the big X lights, dont like them at all.
