Hanging a heavy ish mirror

Im looking to hang a mirror. Weighs 20kg ish. The issue is the fixings on the mirror are too narrow for a 5mm diameter screw. I don't have a 4.5mm to hand but a 4mm fits alright. Im having it on block wall. The 4mm feels a bit flimsy for the weight. I could buy some 4.5mm diameter and see if they fit. What length would you be looking for your screw and plug to safely secure this?

Just take a file to the heads of a couple of the 5mm you have. Try chucking the thread in a drill and spinning it up so the head of the screw spins against a file or "sand" paper.

min 40 mm assuming block wall with thin skim and not in a joint

If not then look at compress nail flush with wall and put the plug in the compress nail

Thanks. Im thinking of filing down a 5x 55mm screw to fit but keeping the length and using a fischer plug. Plan is straight into the block.

Should this be sufficient?

A properly fastened good quality 4mm screw will take hundreds of kg of shear force.

Why go out to buy new screws when you can modify what you have? My wife is always telling me what are you doing buying more screws for haven't you got enough.
