    Hi guys,
    Looking for some help here.

Audi a6 2014 - key not recognised fault

Replaced key battery got new key programmed to no avail, car previously had water damage in boot spare wheel well and replaced mmi unit.

Anyone experienced this? Don’t know where to go with it.
    Much appreciated.

What brand of battery used in key?

Varta or the Aldi own brand seem to work best in VAG keys in my experience.

has the key been re-synced with car?

Appreciate the reply, new Duracell battery gone into old key.

New key only purchased this morning, fully synced to car can see it in initialised keys.

No remote ignition on either have to hold key up to dash.

Does the key (or keys) lock and unlock the car remotely from a distance? This would eliminate battery issues, so then it may only be the key recognition module.

Has the issue just arisen or does it coincide with the MMI unit being replaced?

The key issue came when mmi unit went bust. Key still locks and unlocks etc from distance.

    Any advice ?

Have you held the key against the marked area as the message states?

Did you ever get the component protection properly sorted? You need to get the car on a good scanner to see where the issue lies.

The Mmi unit is behind the dash not in the boot on a C7 A6 so what was actually water damaged?

hi all, yeah I can start car by holding key up to dash just fine, thank you. It was the module under the Bose amp got replaced water trickled in through boot strut area

Its just useful to identify what was replaced since you aren't sure (It wasn't the mmi module) and to make sure the part numbers are an exact match.

Your best bet is a proper diagnostic session to see what the problems are, if there is component protection active etc and go from there.

no worries I booked in with Des Golden specialists in cork. Hoping they can decipher what’s gone wrong. I know it’s literally impossible to advise on this without seeing it haha :)
