Take long to get replacement Vehicle Registration Cert?

Just wondering typically what is the turnaround time on getting a replacement Vehicle Registration Cert?

Might be selling my current car soon as a trade in on newer car.Usually leave Registration Cert in Glovebox but can’t find the bloody thing!🤨

How long to get new one issued and is the process reasonably straightforward?

Did this recently for my son's car as he was selling, a few days at most. I remember being really surprised at how quickly it came. Download the form, bring to guards to stamp and send off.

Thanks for reply……would the garage require any other paperwork from me showing I definitely own the car?

As theoretically surely you can’t just land into a garage with a car to sell and just say you can’t find the Registration Certificate iykwim?

Would be trading my car in against the price of a more modern car.

It will be dealer dependent but generally no you wouldn’t need a logbook or proof of ownership to trade your car in.

Presumably you would have to show proof (driver licence) that you are the person to whom the vehicle is registered (assuming here that the dealer has access to registration details in Shannon). Unless you are known to the dealer of course.

In process of buying a car from a garage,forgot to ask Salesman what is preferable to them regarding paying for a car.

That is Bank Draft or by electronic transfer?……..

From my own or anyone else paying for a garage sourced cars perspective,which method offers you more security etc?

Would have thought Bank Draft would have a better ‘paper trail’……of been drawn out from your bank and then cashed by Garage.

Ask the garage what their preference is. Your sales invoice will be proof of payment.

If you pay by Debit Card, you have no comeback in the event of problems, whereas paying by Credit Card may give you some protection in that regard.

The card machine. 0.2% to 0.4% on debit card payments and 1% to 1.5% on credit card payments. Doesn’t sound like a lot but if your selling big ticket items like cars it certainly adds up. The card machine is for deposits and the balance is paid via bank transfer or bank draft etc.
