    • Possibly wrong forum for this but I'm fuming.

I observed a neighbour hosing down a bird's nest located in the eave of their roof this evening. The adult birds have been consistently returning to that area since, and it appears they were actively using the nest.

They were well under way when I noticed what they were at. I'm stunned that anybody could be so ignorant - they have demonstrated ignorance before but this is a new low. Any point in reporting a matter like this, and to whom do you report?

Approaching the neighbours would likely prove pointless and not worth starting conflict. As stated above; fairly ignorant people.

Fairly ignorant alright.Unless it's a protected species there's not much to do.Too early for swifts nesting. You could ask Birdwatch Ireland or the RSPCA for advice

All nesting birds are protected. To be honest, I'd let it go. Being in the eaves, nests can be a right messy pain for some households. It's early enough for them to nest elsewhere. Probably house martins. I don't think it's worth the aggro with the neighbours, who'll of course surmise the complaint came from the OP. They also don't actually have any proof. It's a scummy thing to do but you'll never change some people's mindset.

Not a bird person so no idea what birds come back to the area each year (swallow type birds). There's a nest on my house too and there's plenty of chirping. The poor birds will likely re-build their nest only to have it washed off again.
