Phone Recommendation - Vulnerable Elderly Parent

I know there are a lot of these threads but I’m pretty useless on knowing much about phones!

My father is currently using an android phone and it’s on its last legs. He’s looking to get a new one and isn’t looking for much.

I’d say in the price range up to €150, one that can take basic pictures (he wouldn’t take much pics at all), decent WhatsApp use, simplistic internet usage and apps like Dunnes, Tesco etc. He wouldn’t have banking apps.

He’s with Tesco mobile and isn’t looking to switch. He’s also prepay or on a sim only plan. I was on the website and the phones in that process range appear to be

Pick one that's as close to what he has in terms of layout than his existing one.

Ask him what he liked about his current phone and ask him what annoyed him most about it.

Would he like a bigger screen, or would it just be a hassle fitting it ina pocket?

Realising he might not even be all that elderly, does he have any physical difficulties with his hands? How's his eyesight? Any problems with hearing?

He’s currently using Samsung A20 E model.

I don’t think he needs a bigger screen, eyesight is fairly ok and no major issues with hearing, other than old age.

Out of the phones listed, as he won’t want to move from Tesco, is there one similar but slightly more modern for him?

Usually i would say go with the Samsung again as its fimiliar but i got the A16 for my mam a while ago and its not good,very sluggish after a few months,the Redmi note 14 isn't a bad phone but comes with a fair bit of bloatware and has ads inside the software..

If he has a Samsung and would prefer to stay with their UI, you could do worse than the A16. It can be got from here for cheaper than Tesco. It will be unlocked, so pop in the sim card and away he goes.
