Being made redundant...can i claim jobseekers?

Just got news my role is being made redundant, i was there 21 months so not quite the 2 year mark which i believe is just the statutory 2 weeks? Can i apply for job seekers and qualify for the new amount? Or new changes they brought in. No official date yet on when will be my last day.

You can apply online if you have a MyGov/My Welfare account.

Just fyi, you won't qualify for the statutory payment as you're there less than two years. Your company may choose to make a voluntary payment, though.

Ah shite didnt know that i wouldnt qualify for statutory, what is a fair voluntary payment or average payment that companies typically might do. So basically i should try advocate for as much money from them e.g 3-6 mths before i go?

You will not qualify for redundancy unless the employer give you an exgratia payment.

You may have some holiday entitlement.

You could only be entitled to 1 weeks notice.

Your entitlement to jobseekers benefit/ job seekers pay related will all depend on your PRSI contribution record.

they have hinted there will be an ex gratia payment, should i take it and go that route?

Do you know if they previously made staff redundant just short of the two years to qualify for redundancy?

I remember working for a guy for a few months over four years 25 years ago and went to claim the dole and the guy never paid anything at all for me. It was as if I had never worked. It was a construction job in the west.

you don’t really have much choice. If you haven’t been working there for at least 104 weeks and they’re letting you go then you’re not entitled to statutory redundancy and if they’re giving you a good bye gift you’ll take it. However depending on how much it is, it may be taxable as it’s not redundancy.
You can make enquiries about that via you revenue.ie MyAccount via MyEnquiries.

If your looking for and available for work and you meet all the other criteria then you’ll be eligible for Jobseekers and you can apply on your first day of unemployment

Look at jumping into something new asap rather than waiting about for this job to finish, it'll be harder get a job once you're unemployed. Hanging aroung hoping for a payment that may or may not appear might not be worth it.
