Hi, I'm in the process getting planning for a new build 1 off rural 1.5 story 120sqm A1 house in connemara. Can anyone recommend an experienced engineer to help me through the process and if you have used them yourself what the end to end cost was. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Whoever is recommended. Make sure you check their past work and experience level.
Be wary of anyone who reputation is based on qualifications. As I'm not aware of any engineering qualifications that cover domestic design - the bizarre state of Irish built environment

As a very general point, and as an engineer myself (albeit in a different field), you would be well advised to go with an architect.

They will, in general, bring far more to the table in terms of livability and day to day quality of life than an engineer will. I drove through rural Galway for 10 years for work, and I can spot the houses designed by engineers a mile away. It's not even that architect-designed houses are more expensive, or showey, they often just have nicer proportions and consider little things that an engineer might miss.

Thank you both for the input I'll take everything on board as I'm learning every step of the way , I actually have the house design down but need it to be converted into build plans. It's more to help me get over the line in the planning and also to sign off on certs during the build I would need him. I'm not even 100% sure if I'm going about it the right way but I need to do the majority of the self build myself for obvious reasons. It's a hard life for a boiled egg.
