Hi, apologies for the post but I've no idea if what's happening to my daughter is correct. She's just finished up her second temporary contract in the same secondary school, a maternity vacancy year before last and half an RFT / sick leave cover this year. Her school has advertised a new 9 month maternity vacancy starting in September but she has been told she cannot apply as it would mean the school would have to offer her a permanent position and one doesn't currently exist in the school. Does this sound correct? Any advice appreciated.

That is incorrect. She can get a fixed term contract for maternity leave. As its temporary in nature, it does not result in cid. She should contact her union asap.
