Anyone have an idea of costs for getting hoggetts and Ewes clipped this Summer?

I think my man was €2:50 for doing ewes last year (full fleece on them)……

And was €2 for dry hoggetts with only the Winters fleece on them as I get ewe lambs clipped in September each year (by same man)…….as it means you don’t have to worry about getting them caught in briars through the Winter.

I would be pushing the sheep up the race for the Shearer,he does have a teenage son with him who gathers the wool and packs it well into Wool bags.Throw the son a few notes to keep him sweet.

Anyone clipped sheep yet this year?…..

In fairness 3 euro is probably cheap. Sheared some single ewes here yesterday and weighed a few as they won't fint in the scales once theres a growth or wool. lleyns ewes were between 80-90kg and the Suffolks between 85 and 105kg. Ya would earn the 3 euro shearing them all day.

Think I'll shear them myself this year, can be awkward to get them all together for a set day as I've no shed to put them in if it's wet

Shearing my own. Do a few at a time. My biggest day so far was 9 🤣🤣.

Weighed one of the Dorset hoggets after shearing her. 92kg. It was like shearing a hippo!!.

Splitting My flock in half now and going easycare with half as a trial. Think they will do well on the middling land and keep my dorsets up at home on the better land.

Anyone that ever tried shearing their own would usually gladly pay the price.

A fit person doing 2 - 300/day can make good money
