Back to Work (BTWEA) scheme - means testing & experience

I'm currently on Job Seekers Benefit after experiencing redundancy a few months back and in that time I've put plans together to start my own business. In order to qualify for the BTWEA (Back to Work Enterprise Allowance) it looks like I need to qualify for JSA when my JSB expires, however this is means tested and based on what I read so far it looks like I probably won't qualify. My spouse works full-time and I also have some savings.

    **Two questions to ask:**

    1. Does anyone know how JSA means testing is calculated for situations like mine? For example, is there a set percentage deducted from the total allowable amount of €244 based on my spouse's annual income, the amount of savings I have....? They have case study examples on the DSP site but there's nothing concrete on exactly how it's calculated.

The process for applying for BTWEA is fairly in depth so I'd really like to find out if I'm likely to qualify and how much I could expect if anything before starting the process?

    2. Additionally, for people that have gone through the BTWEA scheme (ideally in Cork), do you know if there is a turnover minimum you need to meet in your first year of business? That's a concern because my business will be a relatively low margin craft business so I'm not sure if they'll deem it to be profitable enough. Again there doesn't seem to be much transparency on this online.

Any advice or feedback from people who have actually gone through the BTWEA scheme would be a real help. Many thanks in advance.
