I am a primary school principal and my daughter is in final year in Mary I in Limerick. She loves teaching and also loves the irish language. i am a native Irish speaker and we spoke Irish at home so it was probably easier for her. She always expressed concern to me that some of the lecturers (one in Particular) has driven the love of the language out of a lot of students. This person constantly criticised student and continuously failed students for the smallest of reasons. This person receives Conradh na Gaeilge awards which is nuts. As an Irish speaker these lectures really annoy me, It is not about the love of the language but to catch people out. From a native speaker I feel it is these type of lecturers who are snobbish about the language are helping to kill it. The person who finds it harder to learn is the better teacher. I know how hard it is to teach children Irish in school but to break the teachers and drive the love of the language from them does not help anyone. Mary I needs to look at these folks and realise it is not the awards that a lecturer gets but the passing on of the love of the language. Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí. Bual sa tóin í agus titfidh sí.
