    so…

Having been toying with the idea of buying new IWC.. prob Big Pilot.

Got me to the “what will I offload” conundrum

    ..all them?

It’s nice to have a couple to change around , but most only get a week at a time, so if you bought the one…

Can we really survive on one watch?

I'm in a similar situation. Not about to buy one (although no doubt that might happen anyway) but wondering if I could live with just one watch. If I could it'd have to be the Speedmaster as it gets by far the most time on my wrist. I've a lovely Explorer 16570 and a Datejust 1601 which are both beautiful, but I'm not sure they get the wrist time to justify the expenditure.

Of course, if I sell one or both the question then is will the temptation you buy another watch be too strong to resist…

I think 1 watch box is a more realistic goal.

    One?

    At a time like?

    Could it be done? Yes.

    Should it be done. No.

    Yes.

Garmin smart watch. Ever since I bought one and started tracking my other watches have stayed in the box, so it is to all intents and purposes my one and only watch.

Not sure the same can be said of any other watch though where you're looking for a day to day change in aesthetic more than a change in functionality.

I intended to stop at one. Then got myself another as a birthday gift. Then was given something very special (thread now deleted), then got an unusual piece last month on a semi-impulse. Ugh. Now it's four.

Pretty much a similar conundrum to what has me listing my Omega GMT and going over everything else in my watch box currently.

I currently have a 12 slot drawer insert that only looks right if it's "full" 😉 but, despite a fairly regular change of what I wear, I probably only wear 5 of them regularly. The others were must haves but, I find myself not wearing them.

The Omega GMT, I spent quite a while finding one and I do enjoy wearing it, I just find myself wearing others more. Similarly with my Accutron GMT, but that one would only ever go as far as my son's watchbox if I was to let it go.

The last few months my most worn have been my Sinn's, my ProMaster & my CW GMT. With my IWC & Black bay taking a distance last. The others, I can't remember wearing more than once in the past few months.

That said? I have zero idea what my one and done would or even could be.

I think for sure it can be done, but if you're in a watch forum asking that question then no, you can't do it :D

@fulladapipes Love Holzer on a Speedie.

I think, if you like to always wear a watch, one and done is risky.

I like to wear a watch even if I'm swimming or clipping a hedge or mucking out.

That's not really a watch I'd likely wear with a suit.

X= n+ 1, where n is the number of watches you already have, and X is the ideal number of watches.

    QED

    interesting comments.. am convinced

I do like immensely the ones I have, so the challenge is buying one more similar to the big pilot but not the same price.

I think I could do an explorer or a speedmaster as one real watch, plus a garmin for other activities

I don't have high end watches like some folk on here, maybe have about 6 or 7 different ones, and my Casio W86 (£20) gets about 90% of my wrist time.

Before that I was rocking a Garmin Instinct for a few months as I was trying to track sleep, and I wore that for the guts of 3 months every day.

I would still love to own my grail watch of an Omega Seamaster, but the notion is fading with time. Starting to think that if I find a good smart watch then it'll be on my wrist 99% of the time.

Thinking of taking a punt on a Samsung Watch 7, plenty of them being sold sealed as Samsung were giving them away for free with new phones and upgrades.

Bought for similar reasons and yes it's very effective in graphing hrv and sleep. It's excluded all other watches as a result which I'm kinda bummed about lol!

im not sure about one watch… but i think i could live with one 'reasonably' good watch and then a casio gshock or something similar to horse around with.. i wish i was had a personality where i could be just 'happy' with what i have..

Wear my Garmin maybe 90% of the time but if out for an evening or on holiday it stays in the box.

That is undoubtedly the biggest issue. I have 6 watches, including my Garmin (which I normally don't count as a watch and never wear anywhere except running/ gym). I go through phases with each of them - sometimes I'm convinced my PRX Powermatic is the perfect everyday watch, sometimes I think it's boring, for example. I have 3 straps for it and have been convinced by each one that it's the best pair, only to change my mind. The only watch I never find myself questioning is my Black Bay Heritage 41. Hence, i think an Explorer COULD be one and done… Maybe… But probably not.

    Been thinking about this....

Obviously no is the answer but separate to number totals are factors such as classification or subgroups.

In my case loosely speaking electronic/vintage/modern. Other folk will have theirs like dress/dive or certain brands in specific.

So maybe it's less about a total number but whittling down numbers to what best represents the niche your into. Perhaps then anything else is surplus to requirements.
