Trying to get a handicap

    Hi all,

I'm on the iGolf and have been trying to get a handicap but it's extremely difficult to get paired with members who will mark my card.

Was hoping that the Boards Society would help but I'm out until July, had a card revoked because I hadn't it declared in time on the app, despite having a signed card.

Is there anyone in the Cork/Munster area that would play with me and mark my card? I'll travel as far as Dungarvan/Killarney/Clonmel and anywhere in between.

You don't need to submit one yourself, I just need a member to attest my score on the app.

    Thanks!

how does it work with igolf?

Do you just put scores straight into app?

Asking as I know with at least a few clubs, you will have to have actual cards handed to handicap secretary before you can use app.

Does igolf have such a thing as a handicap secretary you can liase with?

I played in a society outing yesterday and one of our four ball logged into Igolf to record his score. I asked him how it worked and he said he just enters his scores every time he plays 18 holes and expects a handicap once he has 20 entered. No mention of signing off by a playing partner and the card was kept by the Society.

He reckoned he would end up playing off 25 to 27. A very generous allowance given his ability in my opinion, but I grew up in an era where you started off low and had to get on with it.

You create a round on the app and add playing partners. If you're using non iGolf partners you need to have their membership number.

You record the score then either during or after the round and submit the round, your playing partner then has to accept the round on his app for it to be submitted.

I did ask to have a physical card for a round to be accepted, which I did send by email. Was signed and all but they wouldn't accept it. I reckon they're very strict which is right but naturally frustrating when it was a bone fide round.

I was given an index after three rounds but purely based on my best round, so I was due to be 17.8 but that could change depending on what rounds I can put in. Just hard to find members to play with when you're not a member anywhere yet.

(Also I'm saving for a house so just getting a membership isn't an option)

Hard to get members to play outside their usual times and playing partners.

I hear ya re saving for a house but lots of clubs offer distance membership at reasonable prices and be easier to tie up with members then as you can book in yourself where theres a free space.

Example:,my club Cahir Park have distance at 450 i think and full playing rights.

    Lots like that out there.

Is there any facility within the iGolf app to contact other iGolfers in your area?

ok, so it's exactly the same as any other club golfer who enters a general play round

I misunderstood and thought you were struggling to get the initial setup handicap

this graphic shows how your handicap will adjust now as you play more rounds

my only advise is maybe looks for nearby open comps you could enter or other society outings (eg local pub) but you will need the rounds signed off by a GUI member so just make sure you have one in your group who is willing to attest your round

    he sounds like a bogey

there are no exceptions, he has to have his round attested. I wonder does he have a mate who is doing it for him 🤔

He should have a handicap after three. But if he's not getting his rounds attested, he can plug them in until kingdom come and he still won't have a handicap. The fact he thinks it's 20 tells you all you need to know.

It's a hard one because I don't think I can enter open comps without an initial handicap?

There seems to be bad enough feeling from clubs as it is without rocking up and asking to use it purely to attest a card.

You can't enter the competition but it's fine to book into an Open to get a card marked. Clubs won't care if you actually enter the competition or not, once you're paying your money.

That's ideal, I'll do that so altogether. Thanks A!

but you do have your handicap

    you said it is 17.8

it doesn't matter that you done have 20 rounds yet

Some clubs won't let you win an Open without having a fully developed handicap (which is 20 rounds), but you can still enter the competition and play in it.

It just means if you win it the prize will go to whoever came 2nd instead.

No I had one of those rounds cancelled because I hadn't created the round on the app, despite having the card signed and attested
