Lights Wiring Query

Hey all,
I took down two (working) internal wall mounted lamps, to then replace them with new ones. Attached are two images of the fittings… I thought it'd be as straight forward as brown to brown and blue to blue.
Now on one of the lamps, there was two extra wires, that were wired into the older lamp.. I just took the adapter to terminate them.
But now the new ones aren't turning on… can anyone advise if I did something wrong?
