    Hello all,

I've just bought a classic MG having not had a classic in a number of years. I can smell petrol already but have yet to investigate. I'm assuming it's going to be a fuel line damaged by E10 petrol and is now leaking.

Are you using alternative fuel lines that E10 doesn't eat through?

Could be anything if it has rubber hoses could be perished , petrol tank corroded.

Open bonnet and sniff around under there to see if you see something wet and furry as petrol can freeze look.

Open boot does it stink in there as cannot remember if the tank unit is in the boot or tank needs dropping.

Thanks for your post. I'll have no difficulty finding the source of the current leak.

I just wondered if the rubber hoses could be replaced with something else eg. Braided or copper

Rubber hoses allow it to flex and it cant be metal at those points.

Copper pipes or braided pipes would need to be large as mostly they are for replacing brake pipes.

Dont! You should assume that the car is 40 years old and the pipes haven't been changed and its sod all to do with E10.

With an MG it's probably the top of the fuel tank that has pinholes corroded in it.
