CRT guy in Dublin? convergence issue arcade monitor

    Hi guys,

I have the following convergence issue with my arcade monitor.

    IMG_9714.jpg

It will involve adjusting only the middle pair of convergence rings (red and blue) for what I recon.

I am not very familiar with it, and I wonder if you know any CRT/service/repair guy in Dublin that could help me with it?

Otherwise, it would be great if any of you is familiar with it and wants to do this service for me. I would be happy to pay for it.

In both cases, considering the dimension and the weight of the monitor, it would be a service to do at my place.

    Please let me know.

Honestly it looks like it's only just barely out, like the red and blue rings just need to be pushed ever so slightly.

You could draw/paint a white line across the rings as they are now so you can easily get it zeroed back if you go too far with one.

it looks only out at the corners ,if so try some magnetic convergence strips first,

rings should already be marked upbut only go at them as a last resort cause it'll drive you mad !

Yep, you are right, it is just a light mis-convergence… I could do it by myself…

But if there is any guy more educated than me on that, I would incline to ask for his help…

Is caulk ok to block the rings once the job is done?

In general, are you aware of any CRT service in Dublin?

You can put a bit of silicone on them once you have it in place, have seen people doing that alright.

There's one guy in Dublin who services CRTs, he's called Weeb_labs over on adverts.ie.

He has a CRT listed for sale here. Might be worth shooting him a PM.

I have got some strips too… They are useful when you get a wonky corner, but the picture seems to have a general symmetrical mis-convergence. Anyway, it would be worth trying it.

Mike is great! I don’t know how he is so confident to play with that strip and in the meantime rubbing the anode wire so badly 😲

I reached this compromise that probably I will take. Perfection is hard to achive with this old big boys.

I tuned everything with four convergence strips.

The red of top-left corner is a bit offset but I can't fix it with the strips.

    Wow, nicely done!

You need to live with imperfection with CRTs alright, it's part of their charm. That picture looks fantastic.

Do you have a cabinet to put that back into?

    Thank you!

Yep, I will live with it!

Perhaps you remember that I opened a thread here more than one year ago looking for a New/Astro. So after "more than one year" of searching and wasting my time dealing with "not recommended people" that populate our fantastic hobby… I got one! It was in good overall conditions, but as I had to dismantle it to move upstairs, I took a chance to washing and restoring it. After this last stage will be ready soon to take company to my Vewlix :)

I knew the monitor was not "perfect" when I bought it (I didn't know if it was convergence or geometry issue), but I knew it was burns-free and with good colors…

I do indeed! Delighted to hear you actually got one, not an easy feat at the moment - did you manage one from Europe in the end or did you go further afield?

You'll have to stick up some photos once it's back together.

good to hear you picked one up ! o/\ ,these are 20+ year machines none are going to be perfect even the new never used ones found years back in germany had knocks nicks and imperfections and geometry issues.

now for a slightly controversial take and a slight pet peeve of mine ,everyone wants a "burn free" ,but unless severe burn is there its really a none issue for the most part and people need to realise this. most cabs may have some minor burn of some sort and even on white screens you wouldn't notice it and makes no difference. I've seen Atari cabs when off look like they have moderate burn but once turned on (and remember most of their games bitd were mainly black screens) you wouldnt see it at all.

Yep! It’s not easy. I had patience and determination for more than one year… After wasting my time chasing well known “dealer”… I found it in Europe in the jungle of Facebook Marketplace…

Here’s a picture once I have unpacked everything… The instruction manual was inside still sealed. I also have a video of the transportation in the garage… hopefully I will put together a video of my experience with it like I did for the Vewlix…

True! I don’t mind too if is something barely visible in game.

In my specific case, the imperfect corner area is visible just in a service menu with a white text line on black screen passing exactly from there. I tested a few games and there is no impact on them…

Anyway during this searching I saw lots of screen with very heavy burns… like tattoos on the screen… I would be annoying of that

The quintessential Japanese arcade machine, nicely done! she's a beauty. Nice to see another one in the country :)
