Stray cat in need of medical attention.

    We have been feeding a stray for a number of years. We were able to catch him once years ago to neuter him, by pure luck. He was eating in the hallway and the door blew shut behind him.

    The last few weeks he has developed a horribly painful looking tooth abscess and can't eat, just lick for a few minutes and leave.

    I have tried everything I can think of to try and trap him. I bought a trap and he won't go near it, I've covered it, uncovered it, put tuna in it, put cat nip in it. Nothing, he will just leave rather than eat.

    Tried to let him go hungry to see if he'd go in out of desperation, he ended up completely miserable looking. Just leaving hungry every day for 3 days.

    I tried luring him into the hallway like last time, he immediately sensed something was up and now he runs whenever he sees me.

    He can't keep living by licking food. Is there anything that can be done to catch him?

    Would never get close to attempt to grab him.

    Have contacted local rescues etc, they offer the use of a trap which I already have.

    Good for you for looking out for this cat 😊

    It might be worthwhile talking with your vet about the pros and cons of adding sedative to his food so you can catch him. Or, your vet might be willing to discuss treatment options without actually seeing the cat one to one .

    Either way, talk with your vet!

    Thanks for the advice. I considered sedatives but unless they are very fast acting, he will be back sleeping in a derelict building that is closed off by a fence.

    I'm not sure if they do it, but at least some painkillers and antibiotics might alleviate his suffering in the short term.

    Will speak to them anyway.
