Pixel 7a Battery Swelling - Google Appeasement

Thought I'd post this here in case anyone else has a 7a that has recently started misbehaving.

My battery performance had become shocking in the past few weeks and I noticed a couple of days ago that the back was becoming loose due to battery swelling. Scary stuff as it seems to be getting worse by the day.

It must be a widespread issue as Google have just announced a repair/appeasement program. €400 if your 7a is still in warranty (within 2 years of purchase) and is affected by the above. Less if not in warranty. Google don't offer the repair option in Ireland but that suits me anyway.

You can enter your IMEI here to check if your phone is eligible. https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/16043453

I only requested appeasement this afternoon and was approved within a couple of hours.

Yeah did this earlier in the week myself, handy because my phone is in bits and needed replacing. Didn't have the swelling issue but battery life has never been great.

I also have a 7pixel a and would be entitled to 456$, would you have to send them your phone or how does it work? How would you receive payment

You don't need to return the phone. You give your bank details and a third party are doing the refunds, got my notification today it's been sent

Interesting 🤔, my phone is working perfectly but I would like the monies

my 7a battery takes 10+hours to charge and barely lasts a day with very little screen time (mostly used for work related MFA), but they say my IMEI doesn't qualify

Fill it out. I just said my battery was crap, which it always has been 😆

So I can continue using the phone and get 400 euro...... Suspicious 🦛

I suppose it could happen at any stage if it's a dodgy battery

Is this what everyone else gets when they go through the process?

Yes, I think I got a response back the same day confirming the refund

Got the email confirming I am eligible and to set up an account with Payoneer which I am unable to do as a pop up keeps displaying asking me to accept cookies, i click accept and it pops up again 🤨😒

Try a different browser like edge.

Tried it on two different phones and it's the same ****, weird

Got it sorted, mother has the same phone and she is also eligible, very handy :)

I just get "your phone is not eligible" and cannot proceed any further. It's an April 2024 phone but battery life is not great. Any ideas.

It's not an 7a phones just ones with a certain battery. Might get a better trade in on Vodafone. Better battery on the 9a

I have a 7a with a swollen battery that has stopped working. Wondering how I can get the IMEI? I could try digging up the receipt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 536 ✭✭✭td2008

your google account should have it I think.

edit: go to find my device and it's there under the gear icon

Thanks, just remembered I had the box its on there. The phone is in a metal bin behind my garage still. Looks like its eligible, which makes sense since its the ballooned. Where does one dispose of swollen lithium batteries by the way.

Probably mention it to the recycling center.

Its worth 91e plus the 200e against a 9a but I wouldn't swop my 8 PRO for a 9a. Thanks anyway. Will be interesting to see if they have changed their appeasement offers after a sudden take up from Ireland.

    291 is a decent offer for a 7a...

Had given the mother an old 7a, they were offering $200 cash or $300 store credit (local currency equivalent).

Decided to go the store credit route and it ended up being a promo code for €360 not the €265 or so I was expecting via current fx rates.
