Advice for someone who has just found out they are oxygen dependant for the rest of their life?

I (63F) was recently admitted to hospital as my oxygen levels were at 47%. I cannot maintain my level higher than 75%, on my own. I’m currently in hospital, been here for two weeks. I’ve been diagnosed with COPD, the respiratory specialist informed me that I will be on oxygen for the rest of my life.

I’m waiting on the head mask for night time to be made, before I can released. I will have to have oxygen all the time, the tanks only seem to last for 1hr. I’m looking for information about how this works for day to day life, can I get tanks that last longer? This is all very new, any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there

You should get 5 or 6 tanks from the medical company.

Once they're close to being empty you will phone for replacements.

When you're in the house you should get an oxygen machine that plugs in 24 hours and you can change the litres you need per day.

Make sure you have everything in place before you leave the hospital. Speak to the COPD nurse to ensure this.

    All the best to you......
