Is it difficult get permission for a night vision scope here? I see videos of a Hikmicro with rangefinder that isn't out of the way money wise.

I'm in the process of getting the PARD Night Stalker 4K. Looks to beat the Hikmicro units.

After talking to my FO I was told it is easy enough. I had to say which of my rifles it was going to be used on.

I'll put in the application this week.

I'm only going on YT but I thought the Hikmicro bet the Pard from what I saw 🤷‍♂️ What makes you say different?

Again from comparing side by side videos. I'm getting the Night Stalker 4K version. And a higher zoom up to 16X. Pairing it with a very good 940 IR covert torch and it with be great for the shooting I'll be doing.

Yes, but I had Christmas in between, which might have slowed things down.

I have 2 night vision scopes no issues here. Just give good reason why you need it.

    Gary,

I'm unclear about the ownership of Night Vision scopes or add/clip on versions. Did you actually have to pay for permission/licence to use your night vision scopes? Do they each need a separate licence or what? If so, are you actually paying €80 for each scope? What would you consider being a good enough reason for a NV scope? Thanks in advance.

Scope and add on all need separate restricted license.

    80 a scope every 3yrs

Nv and thermal and thermal scopes and add-ons should say need the restricted license

Should You really have to specify which rifle it goes on?

If you are paying the 80 euros and wanted to swap it between a 17 hmr and a 223, surely all would still be legit.?

    I plink therefore I am

I think that is down to chief super as both of mine can go on any of mine they are not limited to a single rifle.

would you not licence it for your biggest calibre rifle and then it wouldn’t be an issue to go and use it on lower calibres? Also if you only have permission to use on one gun and sell the gun does that mean you loose the good reason for owning the NV / thermal site

Hi all sorry for reopening this after a good few months but I'm just wondering if I can get some advice on buying a nv scope. Will the FO contact each of the farmer permissions I get? Also how many permissions should I submit?

NV scope will be a restricted firearm licence.

So it goes to the Chief Super, same as any restricted FA application.

Your FAO might do all the background checks as per a normal FA application making sure everythingis in order before it is passed up to Chief Sup for approval.

Your application is the same as normal, as in you will include details on make, model, serial number from the scope. Depending where you are buying from Private or Restricted Firearms Dealer etc. And you tick the box to say this is a restricted Firearm (or whatever that box says).

If you already have permissions for vermin control for your existing firearm(s), you can reuse these. And additionally I would add a separate page where you explain why you need NV (safer, better success as nit shining a light and drawing attention to other vermin when shooting the 1st one. etc..).

For example with rabbit, using a 22lr with a mod and NV, you can shoot one, and the one beside it will not run off.
