I no longer have a subscription to Ancestry as I wasn't getting anywhere with it. I received an email from Ancestry saying 'your unopened match is calling!' but when I checked it out there was no message from the person who is a match. This was a trick to lure me back. I feel they have been drip feeding me information and when I cancelled my sub they started using these tactics. Is it just me though?

No, I don't think it's just you Jelly.

Ancestry use an awful lot of fluff to try to entice people to use their site.

For instance, opening the app just now and I'm confronted with family trivia questions which is nonsense.

However, what you describe goes beyond that and is quite cynical - sharp practice, one might say.

As best I can I try to ignore all the superfluous crap and just focus on my research.

Plus their 'Help' and customer service is rubbish.

I resubscribed to Ancestry a while back using a link in a heavily discounted offer. The data was autopopulated when I opened the link but it would not allow me to log in using my password, asking me to log in via google or Apple. Somehow I have ended up with two accounts, there are historic issues with linking to FamilyTreeMake, the 'leaf' occasionally works and it is impossible to reach a human as there is no tel.no. or email on the site - chatbots prevail.

Thanks Hermy and Mick. I'll hang around FamilySearch for now but don't hold out much hope there either. I suppose I could contact my match and see what occurs. Does Ancestry still allow non-subscribers to contact others? I know they used to. Some days I just feel like dropping all the research.

I think you can contact DNA matches with or without a sub.

That's good news anyway. Thanks Pinky.
