Hi guys

Just a quick question , currently have a firearms certificate, I’m attached to a rifle club . I have lost interest in range shooting and wish to transfer onto land permission . Just wondering if I don’t renew my membership fee will it cause me issues ie: guards at my door to revoke my firearm and license ? Will I have to submit a new application immediately ? Or can I wait u til the renewal in 2027 . A friend of mine informed me this license is mine u til the renewal ? Is this true

Depends on whether the gun was licenced for range use, hunting or both.

If you only licenced it for range use then you should contact your firearms officer to ensure you'd have no issue using it to hunt, and explaining your reason.

AGS have contacted people who's range membership has lapsed when that was their reason to licence a firearm with the rationale being if it isn't being used at a range then the reason for licencing it no longer exists(ie target shooting at a range).

Thanks for the reply ,on the initial application it was just range shooting would this mean I should resubmit a full application with the intent to shoot on land

You may have to, especially since you did to submit landowners permissions with your original application.

I'd call your local firearms officer and explain, see what they say.

They might be happy to amend your licence, with provided land permissions and change of purpose, or they might tell you to reapply with the new reasons and cancel the old licence when you get the new one.

But best to call and explain, they can be pretty decent when they see you being upfront about what you are doing.

They can also be absolutely dire, so be prepared for either approach ;-)
