Audi A3 2014 , Issue with mechatronic or reconditioning bearings

    Hi all,

I have a 2014 Audi A3 automatic with about 100,000 km on it. It started out with an issue when moving off at traffic lights (car stalled and then after pressing brake the car moved again), but that problem seems to be resolved now. However, the car is now making a loud, roaring sound from the engine whenever I go over 80 km/h.

My local mechanic said the gearbox bearings need to be reconditioned and recommended Autotranz . I then brought the car to Autotranz, where they ran a diagnostic and told me the mechatronic unit needs to be replaced, which would cost around €2,000. I asked them to at least drive the car to hear the noise themselves, and they told me to come back on Tuesday.

I’m a bit lost with all this jargon and don’t want to replace anything unnecessarily. I also called Dalton, and they recommended Autotranz for gearbox issues.

Does anyone have experience with Autotranz, or can anyone explain what might be going on and point me in the right direction? Any advice or reviews would be really appreciated!
