    Hi,

I am meeting a private seller who sells a hybrid car with less than 90k miles. Self charging.

What're the things to check to make sure I reduce the chances of buying… you know… a piece of s…?

    Thanks

Nothing really. Just inspect it like it was a petrol car but make sure the hybrid is working throughout the test drive

I shouldn't be worried about the hybrid battery, correct? No replacement after XXXX miles?

Correct. Just make sure it functions correctly

With a Toyota or Lexus Hybrid can use an obd reader and Dr Prius App to check health of the battery... not sure if there is something similar for Honda's

Does not look like there is anyway of doing this yourself with an obd reader and an app - very easy to do with a Toyota. You might be lucky and get a very good battery but they are expensive to replace. Could you take it to the Honda dealer and ask them to do a battery health check on it? Also worth checking the age and state of charge of the 12v battery. If the 12v is not good it can cause issues which makes it look like there is a problem with the hybrid battery.

Hybrid cars are brilliant when they are looked after. If it is a Japanese import they seem to be good quality but probably worth checking to be sure.

Maybe check your rationale for planning to drive around with two engines for the next few years.

Take it for a drive and make sure it charges. Do car history check.
