probably asked loads of times but here we go!

Id like to get an Alfa 156 resprayed, windows out /rubbers removed/front and back windows removed, underneath treated, rusty bits cut out and replaced/repaired !! So the full shebang !! Anyone any idea of the estimate? Just a rough guide if anyone got it done in last while…

    "cut rusty bits out"

The bits you can see or all the bits?

How long is a piece of string? Proper job … €5000!

id happily pay €5000 ! But going by what i found on research it’s probably a good bit more, also not easy to find the right garage to carry out the work!

I doubt 5k will cover half of that work these days to be honest, thats if you can find anyone who'll touch it. I'd be budgeting for closer to double that.

Should add, I paid roughly €6k for a small amount of welding and glass out respray on a CRX about 4 years back - which is a tiny car. Sundries — like seals, new panels etc were probably around €3k. And even then, the lad at the body shop said he'd never do a job that cheap again as it was way more involved than he expected.

realistically im thinking of 10k,everything to be stripped,id imagine small bits of welding to be done on it as the floors can be a weak point on it..again id happily pay 10k for top work, ive a bit of time to look for a place to do it here as car in uk alfa independent at the moment getting mechanical work done ,so if anyone recommends a place please don’t be shy ☺️ 👍

while there could the Alfa specialist provide some potential places in the UK that he has worked with

I'll be getting my i8 painted in a different colour, and it'll be going to the UK for it - theres a much better selection and a lot more places willing to take on jobs like this and do it properly.

Similarly, my E30 is in the UK having a retrim job done for the exact same reason.

As its in the UK I'd recommend TH Restorations in Buxton.I follow them on FACEBOOK and it's who I'd take my car too if it needed a proper restoration.

little update, got a quote for a full restoration rough guide as car was not inspected ,very hard to price a restoration without inspection of the car i know ! £18.000 upwards ,ill try get one more quote in UK,and still trying to get quote’s here in Ireland! But it’s easier to get in touch with Lord Lucan than get a bodyshop to restore a car 🤣

If you're bringing it for work in the UK, be aware that on the return you can be hit with the vat on the increased value of the car at the port - Northern Ireland is your friend in that case :)

Yes, with an Irish plate, it's a brexit benefit. So let's say the car leaves Ireland and it's worth 10k, revenue see it leave all good. You get work done on it in the UK and now the car is worth 20k, when it comes back in revenue will hit you with vat on the increased value of the car, whatever they deem that increased cost to be ( because the tax on the work wasn't paid in Ireland).

Frustratingly you technically need a temporary export order as the car is being repaired, HMRC insist and you really need an agent to do it, however you might get away without it. YMMV
