iMac - Problem with duplicate folder

I have a folder on my iMac desktop.

If I open it, I see 10 sub-folders.

However, if I click on > at the top of the Finder window, it changes so that four hidden sub-folders appear and I'm now seeing what I expected to see - 14 sub-folders.

Also, if I point Photoshop at this folder (they're image files) it only "sees" the version of the folder containing 10 sub-folders, not the one containing 14.

I seem to have accidentally created a mirror of the main folder and saved the four most recent sub-folders into it.

How can I fix this so that I only have a folder containing 14 sub-folders?

Just opened that folder (after restarting computer from overnight shutdown) and the four additional folders have disappeared! An entire day’s work looks lost.

How best to search and see if they’re still there? But, they’re not showing when I try to point CaptureOne processing software at them.

Sorry - no idea, not mac user. did you try search online for similar case and see solutions?

do you signed up for icloud - check deleted items there, what is your storage limits

In general - sooner you act/find cause root, more chances to recover.
