quooker alternatives?

not sure if this would go here or in the plumbing forum..

anyone have any suggestions or comments about buying a quooker competitor which would be cheaper than a quooker? trying to convince the in-laws that it might be a good idea, but the initial cost of a quooker (€1530 for the most basic option, before you get to installation) might put them off. i would assume that there are decent enough quality competitors which could do the same job?

my mother in law fills the kettle (as in, fills the kettle) to make a single cup of tea, which makes my teeth itch, but at least they have solar panels now which should mean it's not costing them as much. that might erode the financial benefit of getting a quooker or similar though.

another issue they have is that despite the immersion tank being only about 12 foot from the kitchen sink, it seems the pipe that takes the water to the sink runs about 100 foot around the house before getting to the sink, so you've to run about three or four litres of water from the tap before any hot water even starts to reach it - and by the time it gets there, it's lost a lot of the initial heat to the pipe anyway. and then when you stop the tap, you likewise leave a few litres of hot water sitting in the pipe, heat which is then lost anyway.

anyway, TL;DR - any recommendations on decent enough on demand hot water taps?

If your piping is long and you are losing heat, you could opt for the 7ltr combi tank. It takes up a lot of real estate under the sink, being the only problem but you do get instant hot water and boiling water.

I have that Quooker set up and although it now does the job, I have had several issues with Quooker and would not recommend them. There are cheap hot water taps available, maybe have to get one sent over from England where they start at about £300 (+ import fees of course). Personally, I wouldn't go for a UK cheapy because of lack of service when it goes wrong. If I were going again I would bite the bullet and go for a Franke Maris Water Hub electronic. I have used Franke equipment before and have never been disappointed.
