Any providers that allow porting an 041 landline to a SIM/GSM for use with a fixed wireless terminal

    Hi all,
Just looking for advice from anyone who’s dealt with this kind of situation.

I have my gran’s old phone (RJ11 connector, very similar to the one in the pictures below) and her old landline number in the 041 area code — and I’m very keen to keep both. My current provider (eir) includes landline service, but I have a full UniFi setup downstream of the eir modem. Once the modem is in bridge mode, the landline service becomes effectively unusable. Plus, I’m keen to avoid VoIP setups that rely on internet uptime anyway.

PSTN is obviously no longer an option, so here’s what I’m thinking:

We already have a working Saorview aerial and satellite dish on the roof, and several coax runs into the house. Since we’re in a rural quarry-like area with trees all around, mobile signal at ground level is terrible — but Wi-Fi calling on smartphones works fine. So instead of boosting 3G/4G for mobile use, I just want to capture cellular signal at a fixed point (i.e. the rooftop satellite) to power a faux landline.

    My plan:

    • Mount a 3G/4G rooftop antenna alongside the Saorview aerial/satellite
    • Run that signal via coax to a GSM FWT box (something like a FWT-950 GSM?) in the house
    • Connect that to the analog phone via RJ11

Boom: a working rotary-style landline phone, no internet required. But since this isn’t VoIP, it relies on cellular, not internet. So I’d need to port my 041 landline number to a GSM SIM. That’s the part I’m struggling with. So the question is:

👉 Does anyone know an Irish provider — mainstream or niche — who will let me port an 041 landline number to a GSM SIM card?

I’d be fine with prepaid/PAYG as long as it supports incoming/outgoing calls and the 041 number stays active.

Would appreciate any advice or experience on this — or even just a provider who won’t flat-out say no.

    Thanks in advance!
