If I buy a combo box with both satellite ( for UK channels) and aerial (for RTE) tuners , can the combo box combine these into a single channel list ? i.e. will I have to switch between satellite and aerial inputs on the combo box in order to view the particular channel ( apart from having to set the tv to combo box as input ? )

No need to switch. Both sets of channels on the one list

Any box that runs enigma2 will give full set of channels without any switching. Stick a harddisk in it and you will get pause rewind and recording facilities too. Most sellers will configure the box for you

There are a couple of factors to bear in mind, one being that if you are recording you can't change channels. You could use the tv tuner to watch the Saorview channels, assuming the tv has a Saorview tuner/aerial.

oops I misread, this is a very basic and cheap box, I always refer to Zgemma H7S and better as best combo box to buy.

I always thought combo was 1 sat and 1 terrestrial tuner

Bought and setup a H7s for Saorsat and Freeview (UK) for a relative. Great setup and ability to 'tape' her programmes too.

The majority of combo boxes sold by the main electrical retailers have a single sat and a single terrestrial tuner and can be set up without any great tech understanding.

Too far away and behind mountains to get Saorview. It's pish as any big sporting event is scrambled for fear of upsetting the British broadcasters. Complete bollox. However, it's all I can get for her. In NI here, but can't get a signal of the aerial for the one they repeat of Black Mountain (I think).
