Looks like ESB found a home for all their spare 22kW AC chargers.

Hopefully they'll use cars that are capable of charging at that speed or it'll be a bit pointless waiting around for a rental car to charge at 7 or even 11kW.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Since enterprise are supplying the vehicles then I imagine it'll be whatever they have in stock

Only a 24 month trial...go car and Yuko (Toyota) in Fingal.

Fingal County Council has been working with the ESB Innovation team, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and car sharing operators, to develop transportation options to ensure that electric vehicles are accessible to a broad range of people, while contributing to more sustainable and connected communities.

A new pilot project has launched today which sees the introduction of three EV-only eHubs opened in Malahide (beside the train station), Chapel Lane in Swords and Sandyford Business Park. These purpose built eHubs each include an ESB charge station and two shared EVs available to book at the sites.  The EVs are provided by car share operators Go Car and Yuko and will be integrated into the suppliers’ existing car share booking apps, making it easier for users to book.

Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Brian McDonagh said: “Fingal County Council is proud to fully support the eHubs pilot project, which provides our community with an accessible pathway to electric transportation while promoting a cleaner, greener future. This initiative not only supports sustainable energy solutions but also strengthens the connections within our community, paving the way for a more environmentally conscious future for generations to come.”

David Storey, Director of Environment, Climate Action, Active Travel and Sport at Fingal County Council said: ‘’We are making significant strides towards a healthier and greener environment with this initiative. EVPZ further reduces the environmental impact of traditional car sharing and helps us overcome barriers to EV adoption. With eHubs in two locations across Fingal, it enables citizens to move sustainably, quickly, and cost-effectively."

Donal Phelan, Head of Innovation, ESB Group, said: “Adopting cleaner technologies and sustainable practices, can greatly reduce the transportation sector's carbon footprint and make a substantial impact on our journey towards a net zero future. We are delighted to be working with Fingal County Council and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to develop these innovative eHubs at prime locations to aid in the promotion of sustainable transportation options. By providing convenient access to shared EVs, these eHubs will encourage more residents and businesses to opt for sustainable travel solutions.”

Cllr Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said: “We are proud to announce the launch of a new electric car share scheme in Sandyford Business District, in partnership with ESB, Go Car, and Yuko. This initiative directly supports our Climate Action Plan 2024-2029, which champions the expansion of EV car sharing. With its concentration of over 1,000 businesses, 26,000 employees, and 6,000 residents, Sandyford Business District is the ideal location to pilot this sustainable transport solution.”

    Link kinda works now ESB.ie/ehubs

Photo from launch shows a gocar on chapel lane in Swords but neither gocar nor Yuko list a vehicle there. So some sites may not really be live.

Downloaded the app but not showing any of the bike locations. I guess they might not be operational yet

Phone number, name and email required for registration. App requires location access, camera and nearby devices to work

No option for a spot payment that I could see

You need to add a debit card, 50c will be charged and then reverted back to your account

Bikes rates are listed as €5 per hour or €35 per day. There's a €1 unlock fee and the first minute is free, giving time to inspect the bike. There's also a €30 late fee if you return the bike after midnight it seems

Minimum wallet balance to unlock bike is €10, didn't see an auto top up option. No mention of a deposit or hold on your account so I've no clue how they're going to stop the bikes being stolen or vandalised

I wonder if the Zoe in the picture is an omen

It would actually be the perfect car for the job; charges at 22kW, generally reliable, probably loads available second hand at good prices

The one issue is that it's a bit on the small side. I assume part of the idea behind these cars are so someone without a CSR can head to IKEA for some furniture when they need to

The Zoe wouldn't be my first choice for carrying around a new wardrobe

To be fair gocar and others have specific large diesel van sites in many towns intended for furniture moving etc. They have petrol cars only metres away from the new test site in Swords.

True, they also have some vans in Airside which to be fair is actually a smart place to put them

    I prefer electric though 😂

There was a branded Toyota (yuko) and an unmarked Volvo next to it at the chapel lane Swords hub today. There is a bike hire about 10 parking spaces away.

Recently there has been a big Toyota and a small Toyota yuko both branded parked there. Never seemed to move when I passed. Today a Friday afternoon both cars away, some cheeky car pretending to charge. Charger says both sockets free, car is plugged in but likely knew could not start a charge. Parking in area is limited so finding any spot can be a challenge. I would not like to be other drivers coming back to find reserved spot is blocked, especially if low in charge for next user.
