Repointing Roof Question

Hi, I’m hoping someone out there can help or advise me. We had our roof repointed during the week. The side of the house looks ok (I think!) but the very tip of the front and back of the house doesn’t look right to me. When I asked the roofer why there appears to be little (light brown?) looking sections peeping through at the very top he said it was normal spacing between the tiles. However before it was pointed all of this section appeared to be the same, it all looked consistent, but now I don’t think this line across the tip of the roof looks consistent. Am I imagining things as the roofer seemed to think or does something not look right here? Any advice at all from someone who is a roofer or who had their roof repointed would be greatly appreciated. I’ll add some pictures of the roof before we had the work done and after. I hope someone can help, I’m almost wondering am I too fussy but something about the look of it bothers me, like maybe it’s a little bit exposed? The first 4 pictures show the roof as it is now, the last is showing the back before the repointing was done. The areas concerning me are the tip areas above the cement (not the side view) but the front and back pictures 1,2 and 4. Any advice will be gratefully received.

I don't see a whole lot wrong with the pointing itself, you are going to get contrasting colours with new cement and weathered tiles/ridge tiles. There will also be a very thin layer of cement residue on the tiles from using a sponge to smooth the pointing, but weathering will wash this off quickly enough.

Personally, I would have used cement dye to darken the tone of the new pointing as fresh cement has a light grey colour once cured.

I have seen people paint cement and stone with yoghurt and buttermilk to speed up the ageing process, apparently something in the bacteria in milk that does it.

Looks OK. As stated already there was an option to add a dye but I've yet to see that be done on repoints since the storm.

Couple of months time it's all going to be blended in the same colour again. Looks good and secure anyway. Main thing

That's done to encourage or start the growth of lichen and moss I think, which you don't want on a roof.

I'm agreeing with the opinions above - I think it's just the cement colour which has smeared slightly (as it does) and makes the grouted areas between the tiles and the capping much more noticeable.

    Hi all,

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer, I’m no expert and sometimes a fresh pair of eyes on something is exactly what’s needed to ease any doubts. Thanx so much again :)
