I recently posted in the "Is Dublin Really Safe?" thread, referencing a crime that occurred outside the capital to ask whether it impacted perceptions of safety in that area. I didn’t mention any names, neither the criminal nor the victims yet my post was removed, and I received a warning stating that it was in poor taste due to the families affected by those events.

What I find confusing is that this thread has become an echo chamber of references to crimes, murders, stabbings, domestic abuse, addiction, and tragic events within Dublin. If linking and discussing crimes is acceptable when they occur in the capital, why is it considered inappropriate when they happen elsewhere? I’d appreciate some clarification on the reasoning behind this inconsistency.

These are the messages I sent to the moderator that speedily warned me as soon as the post went up.

In that case I'm requesting the removal of all links related to tragic incidents in Dublin that involve stabbings, murders, and life-changing injuries. There are numerous references to these events.

There are hundreds of families still living with the aftermath of such tragedies, and I believe it is important to handle these matters with sensitivity and respect. Just because these incidents happened in Dublin does not make them any less significant or tragic than similar events in other parts of the country, such as Cavan or elsewhere.

I would hate to think that there is a double standard when it comes to discussing such crimes where similar cases in other regions are treated with discretion, but those in Dublin are openly linked and discussed in a way that could unfairly portray the city in a negative light. No community should be singled out or stigmatised due to the tragic circumstances that have affected its people.

I appreciate your time in reviewing this matter and hope you will consider removing these links to ensure fairness and respect for those impacted.

Furthermore, on reading the thread… Please remove all references to drug use and mental illness. These issues have led to thousands of tragic deaths and suicides across the city of Dublin, devastating families. Their inclusion here feels careless and insensitive.

I’ve noticed that posts and links highlighting tragedy, injury, stabbings, deaths, and drug-related incidents in Dublin remain visible and unchallenged within the thread. Given this precedent, I would like to formally request the reinstatement of my post concerning a similar serious incident that occurred in another county.

If my request is denied, I ask that a clear moderator instruction be issued, explicitly stating that referencing violent crimes in Dublin is acceptable, but discussing similar incidents outside of Dublin is not so I can challenge this further up the chain Consistency in moderation is essential for fairness and transparency in discussions.

I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your response and that it may be as quick as your response to my post.

Can someone clarify why it's unacceptable to post about crime outside Dublin, beyond the argument that the thread is about Dublin? If it's acceptable to discuss whether Dublin should be considered dangerous based on crimes committed there, why is it not equally valid to question the safety of other areas in the same way? Dublin citizens are just as important as those living elsewhere, and their concerns about safety should be treated with the same level of consideration. It seems inconsistent that discussing & even mocking crime in Dublin is allowed without issue, while comparable discussions about crime elsewhere result in warnings. I’d appreciate an explanation of this distinction, I'd like the warning removed, my valid posts reinstated or if they are to remain removed I'd like all other mentions of crimes that have affected people to be removed.

    Two things.

    1. There's no appeals for CA/IMHO warnings unless you have managed to rack up enough for a 6 month ban.
    2. They are only 0 point warnings that you received, so basically a glorified PM to try and get you to curtail your behaviour before you get an actual warning.

    Thread closed.
