Most Car Insurance Website Don't Recognise Registration Number

It's that time of the year again and I'm searching for better quotes for my insurance renewal. What I have noticed is that many of the insurers have switched to having a reg lookup only, and no way to search for your make and model of car.

I've had a problem with my registration number ever since new that only a handful of the insurers actually recognize the car make and model from the reg.

Does anyone know why this is or what I can do to rectify it, short of ringing every insurer up for a quote? Cartell and motorcheck.ie has never had an issue.

You are more likely to get a better quote by ringing up than depending on an internet quote anyway.

    Or phone a broker.

I've tried this and the answer is always "Sorry we can't quote that type of car" so I prefer to go online rather than waste a few hours on the phone.

It makes no difference to call or go online. All a phone call does is have the person in the call centre enter your details into the website.

If they don't quote online they won't quote offline. I tried one year by requesting calls from all the companies who refused to quote but offered to call me. Only 1 company called me and the person in the call centre got very confused as they wouldn't quote me. I have full NCD and I'm old, it was a big petrol engine that was the problem.

Last renewal I got a good quote online and was going to take it but I got a text from the company saying to call as they had a better price, I called their call center and got a better deal.

You've kinda contradicted yourself in the last line. You actually called and got a better deal.

I didn't call them they contacted me to say that they had a better deal. I don't give my details to anyone who calls, click on a link or dial the number back so I called their call centre.

The days of people in call centres being able to go off script are long gone, they have to do what the computer says and you have access to the same computer.

wrong. Just did the annual ring-around of 12 companies, and ringing get you answers that online doesn't.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Did you get rejected online before you called?

    Is the car an import?
