Wiring a Hot Water Diverter

Hi,

I need some help wiring my diverter please.

The switch in my hot press has normal live, neutral and earth going into it.

And has on and off, and sink and bath options.

Coming out of the switch, it has four wires, live (brown), neutral, earth and a black wire.

The four wires all go to the top of my immersion.

I think the black wire heats the sink element and the brown wire heats the bath element of the tank. But Im not sure.

The diverter has connections for live, neutral and earth in and live, neutral, earth out.

I tried putting both the black and brown wires into the live in and live out ports on the diverter. But that didn't work. Fuse tripped.

I then tried with just the brown wire. That didn't work.

Then tried with the black wire. That worked.

But I guess now all I'm heating is the sink element of the tank.

So what I'm asking is, what is the correct way to wire the diverter in and out?

Or do I need to change the switch or change the way the top of the cylinder is wired?

Hope this makes sense.

What diverter is it?

If it is an Eddi then the LNE at the switch goes to the LNE in on the Eddi. Coming out of the Eddi will be the N and Earth and then the Brown from L1 and the Black from L2, these will either be the bath or sink.

I removed the bath/sink switch and added an isolator switch in its place so the LNE from the consumer units goes in and a LNE comes out to the Eddi.

Obviously isolate everything beforehand.

No its not an Eddie, its a PV Mate. But its the same thing.

I understand now that Black is Sink and Brown is Bath.

So you got rid of the Black wire?

I found this thread last night which, if I'm understanding it correctly, they just put the Brown (Bath) wire into HTR2 without any earth or neutral wire?

Wiring looks the same alright so, as you say, you will have E and N out, brown to HTR1 out and Black to HTR2 out. You will know which one is bath or sink when you see how much power it is using when on as the bath will be higher and close to 3kW.

We had a new cylinder fitted which does not have a dual immersion so only required L1 out in our instance.

And for Supply into Diverter, is it both Black and Brown or just the Black (I believe Black is Sink)?

I got rid of the bath sink switch, as it is no longer needed, and added a 20amp isolator switch. The LNE comes into this switch from the consumer unit and then LNE goes out to the diverter.
