I’m not sure what the scenario is here. Was it a cheque made payable to you? If so then a bank probably wouldn’t cash it unless it was your own branch, they knew it was you presenting the cheque, and you had enough in your account to cover the cheque if it was returned unpaid.

Most of the time the bank requires the cheque to be paid into the payees account. They’d be very wary of dealing with a cheque payable to you, endorsed by you on the back to a third party.
At least that was the case when I was in branch banking - a few years ago now, but I’d say it’s even stricter these days.
