    Hi.

I'm disputing a warning received in the soccer forum that was given for using abusive language about a footballer.

The abusive language i used was describing a player as a donkey. I've discussed with the mod and they aren't for changing, PM discussion below.

    Additional messages.

My contention is that describing a footballer as a donkey is not abusive / player abuse, it's a term that describes that a player is crap and it has been used since time immemorial by fans and pundits alike. It has been stated innumerable times in the soccer forum about a multitude of players and it has been used by multiple supporters of the club this player plays for and about him.

If I'd used expletives or any derogatory language then I could somewhat accept the warning but I did not so to get warned for literally nothing else than using the term donkey is the most ridiculous and heavy handed moderation I've seen applied.

Hi El Gato De Negocios, I will look into this.

See you have already been in contact with the Mod in question.

I will try to look into this today.

    Hello again.

I've taken a look at your post and your profile.

As per charter….. 'You may consider certain terms to be a bit of banter, but any nickname or phrase that is even vaguely derogatory may be considered as abuse for the purpose of the charter.'

I would say calling a player a Donkey certainly falls under the the term Derogatory - it is hardly praise now is it?

Sometimes a Moderator might look at a 0 point Warning when looking at a post, but not in your case.

In the past few months, you have had no less than Three 0 point Warnings in the Soccer Forum, so that option was most definitely not available to you - and rightly so in my view.

Also, you didn't just call a player a Donkey, you also threw a pic into your post for good measure.

On the basis of the above, the Warning and the Ban will remain in place.

Let me know if you would like an Admin to take a look.

I fundamentally disagree that calling / describing a player as a donkey is derogatory and / or abusive. The term has been used across the soccer forum forever to describe poor footballers. Use the search function and you will get multiple hits, none of which were ever actioned. It is no more derogatory than players being described as brainless, as stealing a living, as not being the first cousin of a footballer and many other examples that have been used and are regularly used across the soccer forum and nobody has ever gotten carded for them, and rightly so. They are descriptive terms that football fans use, always have been, always will be. "Donkey" has also been used to describe particular types of players across many different ball sports and when used, people know exactly what it means and nobody ever gets offended.

I request that an admin review this on the basis that while describing a footballer as a donkey may be unflattering, it is by no stretch derogatory and / or abusive.

Plenty of posts have in fact been Issued Warnings for using that term and others but the Warnings do not appear for posters when you search them, only Mods, unless a post is actually edited by the Mod.

I will ask for an Admin review.

If a player is called a clown after doing something stupid like getting sent off the poster wouldn't be sanctioned even though its not a flattering term.

If a player is called a donkey for missing multiple sitters / chances the poster does get sanctioned because it's an unflattering term.

    Contradictory, no?

It wasn't just some random statement about the player, context and statistics to back it up were posted by me as well as links to these statistics.

I look forward to the admin review.

Hey @El Gato De Negocios ,

I have looked into this. The soccer charter is very loose in what it defines as abusive towards players, so "donkey" definitely falls foul of that particular rule.

I wanted to check that "donkey" is consistently actioned and it is.

I can see no reason for this sanction to be overturned.

Whether or not terms like "donkey" should fall foul of the charter is something I think you would need to raise in the next feedback thread to get the charter amended.

    Cheers.
