I lost a slate recently and as it is only 1 slate I cannot get anyone to repair it. How do I get a replacement slate in place?

    Thanks

wow. i have seen straighter bananas than some of those slates.

either way matching colour wise is almost imposible even if you had the same slate.

get a slate ripper and remove the top half of slate if its still there.

use the slate ripper to sit on top of the top batton and slide the slate in . the ripper will guide the slate up onto the batton. if everything fits remove the slate

get a slate hook and nail it on so the hook is holding the slate in the right position and level with the rest of the row.

use some silicone adhesive to help hold the slate when you reinstall it. you can get away with out this sometimes but its a good job.

Watch this video OP of how to get the old slate out and replace it. In this video he makes a home made strip to hold the new place in. You've that option or to use a slate hook already mentioned or some tech 7 adhesive.

lead is very dirty looking. ok on a farm shed or somewhere very hard to see. it also will bend back over time so i often use lack galvoband . it is stronger and you can bend it in very neat if your careful.

Since your answer was most helpful despite the banana jibe 😁lm going to pick on you for my next question 😅

I still havent got round to doing the job..Im probably too nervous to tackle it. What might I expect to pay to have a pro do it?

if you just bend the lead strip once and the slate comes under sonata to reassure in high winds the bent lead may become ‘unbent’ and the slate slides off. Possible solution is to cut a longer strip of lead- say an extra 3 to 4 inches and bend it over and back a few times. So when pressure comes on it some of the bent lead is touching the lower slate and this stops the bent lead from becoming Fully ‘unbent’

Most professionals just put to daps of tec 7 at each bottom corner and it keeps it in place
