Lots of chat about this post Eowyn so which is the right terminology?

Can the unit be fitted as part of full rewire and wait the PV install later.

I think we were both reading the same article where it was talking about islanding in the incorrect term.

Anti-islanding is the default feature on an inverter where it will disable/drop its synchronised AC output if the incoming grid mains voltage drops. The intent is so that the house does not "become an isolated island" in the absence of grid back-feed protection equipment. This prevents power from going back onto the grid in the event of an outage and putting line workers at risk.

Islanding would be where you're configured to run as a self-sustained island with a suitable inverter (not all inverters have this feature and it's implemented differently on some than others) and you have a change-over switch fitted which physically disconnects the generator and house from the grid while running in local mode. It would normally require that once you're hit by a grid power outage you would then throw the physical change-over switch to take the house off the grid and then power up the inverter to take up the supply to the house.

Thanks, yep same article: the manual option seems bit risky if you are sticking on a generator

I presume it goes between the meter and the CU

The genny will remain isolated until the switch is physically moved, the genny is usually started after that point, so not much risk that I see.
