    a smooth newt, probably disturbed from it's cosy spot, as i dunno if they emerge for breeding this early in the year?

    Edit to add their breeding season in actually February to June, so yeah!

    I don't know many people who have. Actually, a lot of people don't know we even have newts! I was amazed first time I saw one.

    I've often seen them on a sunny day basking on stones, one came up onto a stone wall I was sitting at one day and chilled out (warmed up?!) beside me for ages so I could get a really good look at it - that was nice
