Lessons on the Driver

I'm an average golfer (14) but for as long as I've been playing I can't for the life of me stay consistent with my Driver.

I might have 1 good drive off it in a round. I'm either coming over the top of it or slicing it. Its the 3 wood for the majority of the round off the tees. When I've gotten lessons, the pro will over correct my grip or club head. I know I'm the issue and not the two pros over use over the years but I'd love a fresh set of eyes on me. I don't want to over correct my hands or club head. Anyone any suggestions on a pro in Dublin that maybe has a good eye for an idiot and his driver. Is there a driver specialist out there 🤣

I’m not sure what you mean by “over correct” ? Grip and understanding of where the club head should be, are key fundamentals when trying to get consistency with the driver, more-so than any other club within your bag IMO. If you go to 99% of golf pros with driver struggles, they will all focus on those key fundamentals.

There may be guys out there that specialise is certain aspect of driving more than others, like if you’re looking to gain more distance, trying to work on a particular shot shape etc. I'm not aware of any however.

By over correct I mean, showing all knuckles on the left hand or close the face of the club before back swing..

My main issue over the years is the open face, and the closing of the club face or over adjusting the grip before the back swing is only a temp solution. It never solves the problem. I don't do it with any other club.

Normally the cure/ correction has to be exaggerated to drill in the real feel..

It's repetition after repetition to engrain..

Turn slice into a hook and then dial it back...etc

Do what I've done - ditch the driver.

I use a 3 wood. Hitting the fairway probably 80% and gone from 25 hcap to 18 now and hope to improve it further.

I was getting annoyed with slices and hooks. That led to poor follow on shots and consistent poor scores.

Advised to put the driver away and it was a game changer for me. Might be 20 yards shorter, but a hell of a lot more accurate and more enjoyable.
