Hi everyone, I’m in transition year in secondary school at the moment and i absolutely hate it, the thought of going makes me feel ill. I understand this might seem dramatic to those people who had a good social/academic life in school but i do not and it’s hard to ignore these people when they’re shouting at me and calling my name to insult me 5+ times a day and a lot of people dislike in general. I know everyone is probably thinking just get on with it and toughen up but it’s just harder to do than say.

I am interested in taking English, Maths, Biology, Applied Maths, Accounting, Technology and if i can manage an extra subject i would do Politics and Society or Economics. I’m not totally sure about the module or projects that could be involved in these or if i need a teacher to look over these. How difficult is it to be accepted by Tusla into the Alternative Education Assessment? And do i need to be if i’m 16? I am excempt from Irish and a foreign language. I understand this is difficult to do and how much work, effort, organisation this will take but i’m willing to try this if it could be a more suitable option for me. It’s very important to me and my family that i get my leaving certificate and i’m not sure if i can still sit the exam if i homeschool myself.

Do i have to be enrolled in a school to register for the exam? Can i just register myself online? Will a school in my area let me use their exam hub or do people usually get declined, if i register myself am i entitled to an exam hub? Should I use the contacts that are listed on the education.ie website or will they have no answer for me? I’m not sure i’m totally willing to go back to my current school and while I could move there isn’t a whole lot of places available in my location. Also would i be entitled to a grant scheme? i’ve heard about this but i’m not totally sure if it’s just for people who physically cannot attend because of a medical illness. I’ve tried to research but i feel like i need a direct opinion from someone who knows about this kind of stuff.

Thanks guys! Also please answer asap i need to make a decision on what to do so i can sort it all out before this September!
