I'd like my warning and ban imposed by squonk to be reviewed.

It seems to be completely over the top for an innocuous comment.

Have you discussed the warning with the moderator?

I tried but banned from thread and hasn't replied to my message.

    When was the warning applied?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭spakman

    2pm today

And you started this thread at 2:08pm?

You must follow the steps of the DRP before opening a thread here.

You should contact the moderator to discuss the warning. Give the moderator reasonable time to reply. If no resolution is reached then you may return to this thread to further the appeal.

I'm not familiar with the DRP. I'm not a mod and don't get involved in disputes, but this was just ridiculous frankly so I had to object.

Here are the instructions regarding raising a dispute.

Once you have followed the steps, if the dispute has not been resolved then you can return to this thread.

Hi, my dispute has not been resolved.

Squonk has made his case, I find it unreasonable. I cannot see how "whoite" can be deemed defamatory or offensive, or how it warrants being banned.

Have you engaged with the moderator via PM to try resolve this? Has the moderator responded?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭spakman

Yes I have. They maintain my post was in breach of charter, specifically "defamatory or offensive".

I can't see how my post fits either criteria.

Can you please post the PM exchange here, or copy it to me in a separate PM.

I have sent a PM, thanks

  • Administrators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 15,975 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Big Bag of Chips

    PM received.

I don't see where the moderator specifically accused you of being "defamatory or offensive". That was your comment.

Can you explain the post you were warned for. I don't understand what "whoite" means.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭spakman

The moderator pointed me to point 1 of the charter. That's where I got "defamatory or likely to cause offense" from.

"Whoite" was an off-the-cuff phonetic interpretation of the word white.

Point 1 of the charter states "we are not excluding gentle mocking" and I can't see how my post exceeds that.

There is a very clear moderator note in the opening post of that thread. There have been many warnings and moderator notes recent to outline the new forum and thread rules.

    Your post breached those rules.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭spakman

Well I can't see any posts in the thread to check that.

I have seen much more offensive and/or defamatory posts than the word "whoite".

If that's the kind of post that warrants a ban, then I'm afraid this forum is only going one way.

  • Administrators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 15,975 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Big Bag of Chips

You were able to see posts before your 1 day ban.

The opening post of that thread was updated with the new thread rules. A new charter was stickied at the top of the forum. It is each poster's responsibility to ensure they are aware of the rules of the forum they are posting in and to keep an eye out for any announcements or updates.

Your post broke the basic rule of that thread. There had been multiple notices on the thread that mocking the host's accent will no longer be tolerated. It's tedious.

Your post contained 1 word. Mocking the host's accent. You may not have known that was a problem, but you do now.

Once your 24 hour ban expires I suggest you familiarise yourself with the new thread rules, the new forum charter and any other notices at the top of the forum. That way you will be able to avoid picking up warnings and bans in the future.
