How do multiple applications for civil service roles affect your chances?

I've been teaching abroad for a number of years but considering a change and looking at applying for the civil service. How many times can you enter an AO open competition? If I apply and get nowhere, will my poor performance rule me out for future campaigns? Or if I apply, get put on a panel but drop out, will it affect my future chances if reapplying? Basically just wondering if each application is a fresh start.

    Each application is treated differently.

Lots of people apply multiple times before being successful. Some leave and come back. What you describe is perfectly normal.

    Good luck with your application.

Thanks for the replies, that's good to know. One other thing I was wondering is if they offer online interviews for those who aren't based in Ireland. It will be tricky for me if not.

Usually interviews are held over zoom. Best of luck!

Each application is of it's own merit. They won't know how many times you've applied / how far you've gotten in previous comps.

As far as we're aware they're online, but that is subject to change (hopefully not)

Thanks for the replies. Just looking at the current AO campaign, it says stage 3 is assessment centre presentation and interview. Is this stage always face to face or can they still do this online? Sorry if it's a silly question!

Can't imagine much being in person any more. Everything I've heard of in the last 2-3 years has been online.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I'm slowly getting a bit clearer on things.
