Hello, I am currently converting a Boxer i bought (10K/2017)from a dealer few months ago which was registered as commercial. I insured as private. Conversion is nearly done. I am aware of the conversion fee (13.5%) but i am a little nervous about the figure/valuation that will come up. Any idea I am expecting to pay ?

Could you look on Donedeal and see what similar looking ones are going for? Its very hard to guess. Depends on who's assessing it, what they think of your conversion, does it look very home-made etc. There's a Facebook group for Campervans in Ireland and lots of people post up there what they were charged. You could join that, do a search for VRT and then look at photos of their vans to compare.

Hi. Thanks. i ve done that already. it goes from about 25k to 40k so I am guessing it would be about 3K.. I will try to keep the conversion as basic as possible for now.

When you are providing the information to Revenue for the re-classification, also provide them with the original invoice for the vehicle along with all of the invoices for the components gone into the conversion, and a summary table itemising everything and summing it up to a total value.

That's what I did and I feel they were reasonable on their VRT estimate. It also came back in a week.

Hey I've a question regarding my van that I'm looking to get converted soon. I'm looking to get a conversion done on my van in the North and I'm wondering if I will get caught to pay VAT on the work carried out as well as the 13.3%VRT with revenue.

I understand that I'll pay VAT in the North, but will revenue look for more when I produce receipts for the work that has been done?

I believe you will have to pay both VRTs - for the import & the conversion once its on IRE plate…
