long story short. Been in hospital with serious illness am out now. Went down to get medication I asked what's involved. Told x amount. Thats all well in good but I have been out of work have 0 cash. Tough basically. Then barraged with the same questions I have been asked throughout this.

1 Have you been to the dole - Yes applied for relevant allowance. 6-8 weeks to process.

2 Have you been to the community welfare officer - yes how I got relevant claim started as normal dole were not helpful at all.

3 Are you sure you have no money - Yes I'm sure I don't have any money.

4 Can you try the community welfare again - no what part of no money is unclear.

5 Have you tried online - yes system Fobar last step of verification is linked to a number that I had 2 odd years ago. evetime I get it changed to the number I have now It's the same.

6 Well do you have a medical card - application being processed fill out form submited but every couple of days we need x information. Seem just be happy to ask for information in drips rather than 1 clear online form with the entire information needed for submission. Even then. You guessed it 6-8 weeks to process.

7 Well tbh there is nothing more we can do - do what all you have done is asked me the same questions I get every single time trying to do something.

8 Well sorry about that when you have everything sorted come back we will be more than happy to help - You mean when I have money.

9 This medication you can see is for a very serious condition, Yes sorry to hear about that I could die or end up back in hospital - it's like I took the time out of my day just to troll or something.

10 Well if it's an emergency I can give you a number of social worker that deals with this - What of no money is not understandable that includes phone credit.

11 Thats all we can do we have other customers to deal with thankyou.

Go down to community welfare office with bank a/,c statement , carry letter from hospital prescriptions etc and explain your situation

Great why did I not think of that but the 18km round trip on foot should do wonders for my health. 🤔

You have internet access, may I ask if you've tried either the HSE livechat option?
Or f you cant get your meds until your social welfare or medical sort are sorted? Present at hospital and explain the situation, they will either readmit you until meds situation can be sorted, or pass you their social worker who will try to arrange enough support/meds to cover you for the interim period until your benefits are sorted.

Before ya give a snarky reply re: walking to hospital, you're clearly in a medical emergency in need of urgent care, hence a 999 call.
Good luck getting sorted and I hope your health improves soon.

12 go to the welfare officer if you want your meds, don't go if you don't want them.

Being a smart arse won't improve your situation. You appear to want folks to hold your hands.

There are no answers that could satisfy you, seemingly, so I'll not bother offering any.

    But one bit of advice

Hi OP, have you applied for Illness Benefit? There's not a lengthy turnaround with that payment assuming you satisfy the PRSI qualifying conditions. You will need to apply online via www.mywelfare.ie and have your GP send the medical certification over, once both are received the claim is processed pretty much instantly.

Public health nurse or local after hours doctor service (ddoc in Dublin) might be worth a call your GP might be booked out but try them too, last resort call hospital secretary and tell them what's going on ask for social worker support. Sounds like a rough situation hope it gets better for you.

Thanks for the response. I did enquire what my options were When I applied for DA That was mentioned. I Said I would apply for Illness then was told was not a guarantee and better just to apply for DA as that's what I was there for. We got that sorted, then I asked to apply for illness in the meantime. I was informed that you can only apply for one benefit at a time. I found that odd as questioned why I was told it was to stop people claiming for multiple benefits.

Odd comment tbh. Is that not why you go to these dedicated places like the dole and hospital. After all the Dole are the ones who decide what you are entitled too not you or I. As for holding my hand. Seen as someone knows better Do you go into hospital yourself and advise them You have diagnosed yourself and already sorted your own treatment plan out ? Let us know how you get on. The whole point of going is for them to hold your hand throughout the treatment process.

And on a side not before I get a Snarky response I think the last sentence Is not something I need to do someone else may need to. As After all there was zero advice offered From a post that thinks they have some kind of special insight that they are not going to share.

You can only be paid one primary social welfare payment at once, but if you don't have any currently awarded claim there's nothing to prohibit you applying for a number of them. For example if you were awarded Illness Benefit whilst your DA application is pending, you would receive that payment. If your DA is then later awarded you'll be moved to that payment.

Not sure why they advised DA as opposed to IB initially anyways unless you don't satisfy the PRSI qualifying conditions
